- Beagles, Basset Hounds, Labs,
- Medium to large sized adults. Get one from a shelter and save a life. http://petfinder.com
- A well bred Basset Hound is the BEST breed of dog for kids. They are very calm, they don't jump on them. They are short and not overwhelming for a child. But they are so good natured with kids, that kids must be watched carefully with Basset Hounds. A kid could hurt a basset hound and the basset wouldn't do anything at all. Also because of their back care must be taken that the child does not put pressure on their back. If the fall on their back or lean on their back, it can cause severe pain, and major health problems. So bassets are excellent with kids, but kids must be watched around them or they could hurt the basset.
- African Grey. They are beyond reproach with children and older people. They can be boisterous but seem to have a built in sense of when to cool it. They almost train themselves and are extremely clean about the house.

- English Bulldogs are very laid back and easy going. Mine is 9 and is very tolerant of our 6 month old.
- well for big-dogs who live outside : labs & golden retrievers inside: it depends.. i have a mini poodle and he loves everybody ...
- shetland sheepdogs also referred to as shelties. you may have heard them called miniature lassies but they are not related to collies at all. they are playful and even tempered, not too large, but not so small a child could hurt them easily. i really like that since they are natural herders, they have an automatic instinct to protect the "herd", they are not aggressive in any way, i have yet to see one bite somebody, but they are protective and guard their "flock" well.
- pugs i know from experience i have a pug and its the friendliest dog. Even with kids she's never seen before she is so friendly. There are a few people with pugs in my neighborhood and they all are friendly. Also even if you choose not to get a pug its the way that you raise and treat the dog that will dictate the way he acts near people and kids. But in my opinion i would go with a pug not just because I have one but because I see the way the other pugs are and they all are friendly hope this helped

- labs, golden retrievers, bulldogs, mastiffs. I would steer clear of small dogs (under 20lbs), not because they are not good with kids, but because kids can accidentally hurt them and there is nothing worse than a little kid who accidentally crushes a tiny dog, or breaks its legs by stepping on it and has to live with that knowledge :(
- Mmmm. No-one has mentioned the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Amazing with kids, they are, afterall, the 'Nanny Dog'.
- American Bulldog (like Chance in Homeward Bound) I have a very large family. I am 1 of 9 siblings. We have 20+ nieces & nephews of which most are now adults with 30+ kids between them all. Our family has had many breeds over the years and not found any better then the American Bulldog. Nearly all of the homes in our family have at least 1 American Bulldog in it! This breed has been the most "in love" with children, truly drawn to kids like a canine "Nanny" to their "Man Pups" as we say in our family! Please be sure to research this breed. I know you will be very happy you did! They are given a *Excellent with children* grade on the Dog Breed Info website! On any and all websites you find you will read that this breed loves children. Of course because of their size when grown its recommended that you supervise them with small children as they may knock them down etc unintentionally. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/children.htm
- Beagles, collies, labs, wiener dogs, chichieaus (like taco bell's mascot)sorry don't know how to spell it,some retired police dogs(if owner had since it was a pup), be very careful with pit bulls(even if you do get them as pups), rothweilers( be careful with these also, and boxers!)These last 3 dogs are tempermental, they may not but they could on the children(even if you had gotten these 3 dogs from puppy size)
- I had a cocker spaniel as a Kid Loved her ( my best Friend I now have Shih Tzu ( for 12 years GREAT WITH MY KIDS . now grown ( LOL) and dont take the dog for a walk. http://www.shihtzudynasty.com/index.html My dog looks very very much like the dogs in pictures:_ Speaking from experience with two dogs.
