What smaller dog breeds have similar personalities to Labradors?

I'm moving into a townhouse, and I really love Labs. The place I'll be living has a 40lb weight limit. I'd like to know what dog breeds have similar personality traits. I particularly like the really loving and loyal aspect of their personalities.

2. Papillons are active, like Labradors, and generally outgoing, like Labradors. They can be a little more yippy than a Labrador though. What about looking for a Lab mix at a shelter? There are plenty of tiny Lab mixes that are only about thirty or forty pounds. They look and act like Labs- just smaller! 3. A spaniel, cocker or springer. If you want to go really small a toy spaniel as in Cavalier or Japanese Chin.
4. NONE!!!! Nothing small were & are bred to fetch dead waterfowl out of frozen lakes,swamps & sloughs!!!! & NO animal can be "loyal & loving"-because they are ANIMALS!
