Why do my dogs like their dog collars so much?

I just finished giving my two shih-tzu, Daisy and Happy, a much-needed bath. Of course I took off their collars before doing so, and when I grab them to put them back on - they both seem to love it. It's one of the few things they don't mind standing still for. Is there a reason for this? Perhaps they're just happy because collars have the association of going on walks...or is there a more sentimental reason? Just wondering.

  1. that is really cute for some reason. I'm thinking they are so used to their collars, and yes they may associate w/ the walks.
  2. maybe you named them well to fit their personalities Daisy and Happy are very well... happy names! lol so maybe they just are happy that u will walk them?
  3. Our dogs get excited when they see their collars too, and I've always thought it was because they associate it with going on a walk. They also get excited when they see their leash, or things that resemble their leash... like the strap to a camera bag, etc.
  4. Thats funny because my dog does that too.He seems to go crazy when I take It off!
  5. Its amazing how intelligent these animals are. The dogs know that those collars are theirs. When they see and smell their own collar they become excited because that collar is apart of them. I wouldn't be surprised if they also related their collars to taking walks because they are a big part of the walk itself. lol
  6. My Dachshund goes nuts when I get his collar or leash, He also loves new clothes! (and no I do not dress him up all the time. Only if its cold or maybe for holidays) I think he gets happy to see the collar and leash because he loves going to town and on walks.. I have no idea why he likes clothes so much though. Hahahaha
  7. because you probably have made some good memories about the collar for the dog. so when your dog sees it. They are happy. Some dog got scared, because when ever they put on the collar, they feel they are controlled.
