Is it normal for a pet dog to get 12 teeth pulled at once?

Our pet dog was supposed to get only 4 teeth pulled but then the vet said they had to pull 12, and our dog just died yesterday. Do you think that pulling so much teeth may have killed him quicker? They said he had kidney problems but they did not even check him. I found out he did have blood work done and they said he had a kidney infection. And that his teeth were rotted out and they had to pull.

  1. yes
  2. If I were you I would sue the vet
  3. well if his teeth were really rotten and bad then it is not unusual that he may feel it's necessary to pull them. and having that many teeth removed should have had no ill effect on him that he would die quicker. it sounds more like the kidney problem was what killed the dog. his kidneys may have shut down so without doing a necropsy you will not know what killed your dog. so sorry for your loss
  4. what an awful vet. that is not at all normal. you could have a nice lawsuit on your hands if you wanted it.
  5. I don't think it was the pulling of the teeth. It had to be the kidney problem. I inherited a 15 year old Peke that had really bad teeth. The Vet said there was only one good tooth in her head & it happened.a canine. He pulled that one too & she lived for another 7 years.
  6. the teeth pulling cannot kill a dog sooner but untreated kidney disease and the strain of anaesthesia can.
  7. They have to remove all the bad teeth they can. I have plenty of clients whose dogs had multiple teeth removed up to 19. Sadly the bad teeth is probably what led to the kidney problems in the first place. Bad teeth not only effect the mouth but lead bacteria & infections to the rest of the body especially the digestive system. This is fairly common & why vets push getting the teeth cleaned & keeping them maintained. Sorry for your loss though.
  8. Take your dog to another vet and have an autopsy done. Also get your dogs records from the current vet. Do not tell them what you are doing. Take someone with to to witness all that is said and done. Depending on the results of the autopsy you could have a lawsuit in your favor.
  9. NO reputable vet will put an animal under anesthesia without surgical blood work! The dog died because the KIDNEYS could not handle the anesthesia! Were you given a choice? Did you vet ask you or even recommend surgical blood work?!!! If you were given the CHOICE it is your fault. If your vet did not do the blood work which would have told him your dog's kidneys were failing, it is the vet's fault. Figure it out. Then do what you feel is right. EDIT: Your VET is a moron. I sent you an email.
