What should be the responsibilities and duties of a pet dog?

I am about to get a pet dog (west highland terrier male). What should be his responsibilities and duties?

1. His responsibilities and duties are simple enough. He needs to bark at intruders, stay away from your feet so he doesn't trip you, poop in the proper place and lick you and jump all around when you come home to make you feel happy to be there.
2. if you are really an animal lover, you shouldn't be bothered about what his ''responsibilities and duties '' are! a pet requires lots of love and attention. and dogs are said to be man's best friends! if you love them and take care of them, they WILL love you back and safe guard you.and they don't deserve to be ill-treated. they deserve respect and love! good luck!

4. You make it sound like the dog is applying for a job with your firm. It's a pet. You get a pet to love and to get love back from. You need to train him so he is well behaved and not destructive. The question should be what are your responsibilities and duties. If you've never had a dog, do some research and ask people who have dogs what you should expect. It's work and you will be discouraged at times. You need to find out if you're willing to go through months of pee, poop, and stubbornness until the dog is trained.
