What happens after you switch to better dog food?
I have a Maltese puppy that has been scratching a lot, and I knew something was wrong. So I thought maybe it was the dog food I was feeding him. The dog food is called Purina's Puppy Chow, and I want to change to a better brand of food. I should of done the research before buying him the food. What food would be good for him that isn't overly expensive. Thank you!

- I'd first start with a visit to the vet- to make sure it is not an ear or skin infection, or mites
- Yeah ya see, Your dog has fleas or ticks..... you need to buy him some Frontline......
- http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ Check out this website and try to pick a 4-6 star food that is available to you at a store near where you live. Purina Puppy Chow is really a crap quality food. Other foods to say away from are Iams, Science Diet, Pedigree, Kibbles N Bits, etc. We feed Merrick to our dogs. Try to stay away from foods that contain corn and wheat gluten. Start studying!
- First off, I'm glad you are taking concern. Here are some good dog foods: Wellness http://www.wellnesspetfood.com/ Chicken Soup http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssou... Solid Gold http://www.solidgoldhealth.com/ Any Natura Brand http://www.naturapet.com/ Please never use any food from Purina, because they are all crap, and you would never want to feed a pet that you loved the Purina brand. Here is a website partly on Purina: http://www.thedogbowl.com/PPF/category_I... Never use Science Diet, either. That is a very crappy brand. If your dog is ever sick, the vet will recommend Science Diet. Their Rx diets are Ok for some dogs who need them, but don't get the regular Science Diet. Here is a website partly on Science Diet: http://www.thedogbowl.com/PPF/category_I... HOMEMADE/RAW FOOD FOOD IS GOOD: http://www.pet-grub.com/ http://www.barfworld.com I feed the raw diet. It is the best you can feed most dogs. I suggest you look into it. Purina Little Bites Rating: 1 star (http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_... Wellness Small Breed Adult Rating: 5 star (http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_... So you'd really want to feed Wellness over Purina any day. :) GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- I'm getting a puppy tomorrow that was fed Purina puppy chow. I'm going to try and switch him to Eagle pack as soon as possible (by the end of the week, hopefully). Some good foods include Innova, Wellness, and Canidae, I believe. Check out dogfoodanalysis.com for some thorough reviews and information.
- We feed our dogs Blue Buffalo- its $25.00 at petsmart, and its 16lbs. but if you do switch your dog will have a better, more softer/shiny coat. your dog might have more energy the dogs eyes might become more clear and your dog will be healthier, ALOT HEALTHIER dont worry i fed my dog puppy chow until he was 4 months, i learned my lesson after i read the ingridients and now i feed him Blue Buff. also dont feed your dog: bil-jac, any purina food (beneful, pro plan) iams, kibbles n bits, basically anything that you can buy at a grocery store
