Dog Information

Does anybody know anywhere to compare dog breeds?

Ive decided to get a dog and ive done a lot of breed research and decided 1 of these breeds- Bichon Frise Lhasa Apso Shih tzu Does anybody know anywhere that lets you compare the breeds such as size, amount of exercise need etc? So i can decide which of the 3 breeds is more for me. (no cocky answers please!) thanks.

1. Why not attend some nearby dog shows? Then you can actually meet the breeds in person, and talk to people that actually own and breed them?
2. sigh.......ALL real/recognized breeds have a WRITTEN BREED STANDARD. ALL are found at the AKC site. The *only* place for complete & CORRECT info. Then,you go to shows & meet REAL LIVE *QUALITY* specimens & the people that really know & care about their breed. One doesn't sit at a keyboard & beg strangers-on-line to do *your* homework.
3. tbh i favour the bichon. I'm not a fan of the underbite in the lhasa or the shih tzu. Bichons are calm loving dogs and sometimes i think they're people in dog suits. Lhasas and shih tzu have their great points too, but I just don't like the way they look, call it mean but its my personal preferance. Try dogbreedinfo.com, there is loads of great info on there.
4. try PetChannel.com All 3 of your choices, esp the LA and ST require a lot of grooming. All 3 are yappers and may require experienced trainers to teach them. Have you considered a miniature poodle? Smart, quieter, less fuss.

8. If you are in the UK try the Kennel Club website. I went to the DIscover Dogs show in London last year and there was every breed of dog on show on stands with their owners so you could talk to the breeders and meet the dogs, it was brilliant. Kennel Club will have details of when the next show will be. They are usually late in the year or you could try the Crufts show next year.
9. Go to dog shows and talk to the people that own good representatives. I have also found that breed specific rescues are very helpful in telling you the pros and cons of their specific breed. They have a vested interest in their breed getting into compatible homes. Good luck on your search.
10. I think these three breeds are all very similar but I guess they must all have something to their advantage and disadvantage. Google the breed clubs of all three. But, like all the previous respondents, the best way is to go to a show. In the UK Discover Dogs is a good show but I think it has been on this year (or was it cancelled?) Crufts would be the next step - they have a mini DD there normally. Good luck
11. I agree with Basset, as well as reading up on the breed you should try speaking to people from the breed clubs or people around you who have that breed of dog. I did a lot of research online and at the library when I was looking to get both of my dogs but essentially it boiled down to how I felt after speaking with the rescue club (for my greyhound) and the breeder (for my shih tzu). Responsible breeders will be happy to spend time with you answering questions as it makes them more secure that you are taking time to learn about the dog and the advice they give can be invaluable as more often than not people in the breed clubs have immersed themselves in the breed for many many years and will tell it to you straight if your expectations are realistic. All three of these dogs require a huge amount of grooming (even with a clipped coat), I think it is also fair to say that they are feisty wee things which some people don't expect as they are seen as lap dogs like the toy breeds.
