How do you ship dogs to another state after a sale?
I am selling my Miniature Pinschers and have had people ask about shipping them but not sure how to go about it or if I would want too. I know kennels do this but I know thing about how to go about it.

- Ship by air in a dog "kennel" that is big enough for them. Ask vet about a tranquilizer that is safe to alleviate fear in the baby. Good luck. Do not ship by ground...to cold this time of year.
- bad bad bad idea. You have no idea how awful it would be for the dog. They dont care about the heat or the cold, or if the dog is fed and watered. Most dogs dont make it to their destination alive, so many horrible things happen. Besides, if its out of state, then you dont know the person that is wanting your dog. it could be someone with bad intentions. your best bet is to find a good local home...one that you can meet the people and decide if they are going to be a loving home for your animal. You cannot imagine the horrible things some people will do.....Please reconsider this.
- First off you'll need an airline approved kennel, they have to be shipped via airplane. Make sure the dog had a thick blanket, and a sorce of water, a water bottle (like a hamster's) would be better so it won't spill. You'll have to make sure the airline flys live animals and that they know he's flying(make sure he doesn't get put into the wrong part of the plane!) You'll have to check on the regulations from state to state, the dog will have to be up to date on vaccinations including rabies. You'll need to attach his vet papers along with the new owners info onto the kennel. Shipping is costly and maybe you should encourage the potential new owners to come and pick them up.
- You'll need a health certificate from the vets as well as proof of rabies vaccination. You will also need airline approved crate(s). My folks refuse to ship dogs by air because of the high number of fatalities from the airline throwing crates and being rough in general. I agree with this policy and think that people should have to fly in to pick up the dogs themselves.
- Hi, I bought my Papillion Mimi this past year from Missouri and I live in Pennsylvania. They have pet transportation companies that ship a lot of pets from state to state. Investigate them in your area. I had no problem getting Mimi and it was safe and she arrived safely. I had to pay for the shipping also. But she was worth it. Check your telephone book to see it they are in your area.If you do check out their qualifications and if they are reliable.
- Get in touch with Jet Pets they will organise to the the dogs shipped where ever they have to go .I had 3 dogs and 2 cats shipped from Victoria, to Kalgoorlie in WA they arrived in excellant health and were quite happy when they arrived. You will find the phone number in the phone book.
- This is OBVIOUSLY the WRONG place to ask, isn't it??? These people are "civilian" IDIOTS that don't know SQUAT about dogs...or much ELSE for that matter! ALL airlines have ***800*** NUMBERS!!! CALL them! DUH?? THOUSANDS of live animals are air-shipped DAILY!! You MUST have the correct SIZE approved crate, absorbant bedding,*TWO* "cups attached INSIDE!**NOT** a stupid "lick-bottle"! Make the reservation 24 hrs.BEFORE the flight & ALL the health certs. MUST be done BY A VET w/in ***10*** DAYS prior! Pups UNDER 4(6? I forget)mons. do NOT need a rabies cert! YOU pay for the PRE-Flight stuff & BUYER pays for CRATE & flight! ******ONLY****** use a NON-STOP flight!!!!!! That's not EVERYTHING you need to know-***CALL*** the AIRLINE!!! ***********WARNING!!!!!********* NEVER "tranq"!!!!! You could KILL the animal!!!!!!
- We shipped one to New York state from Oklahoma. The buyer made the arrangements with the airline. We purchased the shipping container, got the vet certification, and delivered to the air freight terminal. The buyer settled up with us using paypal. The only requirements for the animal that I recall were that it had to be at least 8 weeks of age and able to withstand temperatures down to 20 deg F. Being a wolf hybrid, that wasn't a problem for us. A short haired dog may present special considerations here which the airline should be able to work through with you. Good luck.
