Can you get a pet dog on World of Warcraft?

Or puppy or anything of the canine sort. I also heard you could get a pet alligator? If so, where can I find them? I'd really like a dog since I already have a cat and a bird. I'm referring to non-combat pets, so just one of the ones that follows you around. Thanks!

1. As far as I know there isn't a non-combat dog available. If you like a variety of pets, my best advice is to make a Hunter class character ;)
2. It's not cute and cuddly, but you can get a worg pup pet by doing a quest in Blackrock Spire. You need to be a high level though, 55+ I believe. You adopt an orphan and take him/her around to different places and at the end you can choose a pet as a reward. There's a piglet, a turtle and a rat.
