Pet dog has ear wound. How can I prevent him from scratching it?
My pet dog has this wound in his outer ear lobe which never gets healed because he constantly scratches it. I tried trimming his nails but to no avail. Can anyone advise me how to make one of those "cone" thingies that can be wrapped around his head to prevent further scratching? My location's too far for me to bring him to a vet. Pls help. thanks. Also, pls suggest proper ointment, natural remedy that I do to help the wound heal faster.

- get him a dog cone until it heals... and youn can used neosporine and hydrogin peroxide to keep it clean and to close properly.... EDIT You can also buy one at a pet store.... and give him some baby tylone /asprin to help with any infection or pain....... until you can take him to the vet
- You really shouldn't let him scratch or lick the area. You're right you need a cone but, you really should take him to a vet. I'm not sure why you can't take him. However, what if you dog's wound already is infected? Also, if you try to make the cone yourself you could create sharp edges on the cone and risk giving him more injuries. Just be careful. The cone my vet gave me is made of rubber on one long side by the neck, plastic so the dog can see through, and has velcrow so you can easily put it on and off. Please consider finding a vet and good luck to you both.
- put some warm water on the wound, then some orange juice (yes orange juice) . then buy some thick tape and wrap it around the ear so he cant get to it!
- wash or soak the wound with warm epsom salted water 3 to 4 times a day. he is scratching at it because it is itchy.after u clean it apply thick white honey and try to put a little piece of gauze over it to keep the honey on the sore.if u have any anti itch cream put that on too and u can give him a benadryl 1 pill per 40 lbs of his weight every 6 to 8 hrs to stop the scratching.do this for a few days and it should do the trick. epsom salts and white honey are natural healers and will draw out the infection and heal up the wound if done continueally for about a week or so.to make a cone u will need a flat piece of plastic that is fairly firm so u can fit it around his neck.maybe piece of cardboard cut in the shape of a cone and use a few pieces of string and tie it around his neck. it might work. it will have to be large enough that he can't scratch in front of it onto his sore ear. i hope this helps. good luck
