Can somebody tell me about all the different types of DOG COLLARS and their uses?
Please don't give me a link to Wikipedia, I have read from there already.

- What KIND of dog collars? Regular every day collars? Or Training collars? -Leather -Nylon -Ribbon -Choke Chain -Prong Collar -Halti
- there are nylon collars-best money wise and last longest leather collars-expensive and wear out and even break choke collar-do not leave on all the time-used for training dogs not to pull-tightens when dog pulls-good for pups that are going to get big
- The two we use - Nylon - id tags and to hook a chain too or leash for walking Choke chain - for training and walking when training (large work dogs) Leather - we actually don't use, since they don't seem to hold up well.
- there is your typical adjustable collar.. ideal for leashing, and putting tags on. If your dog wears a collar 24/7, this is the collar to use. Its typically made of nylon or leather, but can also be cotton, hemp, suede or other materials. Rolled leather is a leather collar that is rolled instead of flat.. its the same as your adjustable collar, but is better for long-coated dogs because it causes less hair damage. Martingales are a collar that tightens, but wont choke. A good choice for dogs that slip their adjustable collars. Also a good alternative for a chocker if you have a dog that has a delicate trachea/neck. Typically made of nylon or other fabric. Chockers are metal chain chockers.. they tighten when pulled. To be used for training ONLY.. not to be worn any other time, as the dog can hang himself on it. You arent actually suppossed to choke your dog with this collar, just to use it as a correction. Pinch collars are chockers that have little metal stubs inside them. This is also for training ONLY. Shock and other electronic collars are training collars... there are "no bark" collars that activate when the dog barks.. they can shock, spray an unpleasant odor, or emit a sonic wave when the dog barks, depending on the collar. Electric fence collars shock the dog when he tries to step over the perimeter of the invisible fence. Remote shock collars are for training.. these are ideal for off-leash training... the trainer has a remote and can shock the dog for a correction. Elizabethan collar.. is one of those "lampshade" things that is put on a dog after having a medical procedure.. this is to prevent chewing/licking/scratching. Flea collars.. a rubber-like collar coated with a toxin to help kill or prevent fleas. I dont reccommend this type of collar as it contains dangerous toxins. Break-away collar. This is also an adjustable collar and is only ideal for holding ID tags. If the animal gets the collar stuck on something, it will break if pulled. Not to be used with a leash. Halti head collar/gentle leader actually fits around the dogs face instead of the neck. This is for training and walking. The concept behind this collar is that when the dog pulls, the collar puts pressure on the dogs face.. so its a self-correcting collar.
