whats the difference between dog and cat fleas & tick collars?

I notice at a walmart that dog collars that kills fleas & ticks is 2.99 dollars while the cat fleas & tick cost up to 4.99 dollars. It is the same brand and collar, noting fancy at all, when I asked they said it is the correct price and don't know why the cats collar is a bit more expensive. Is there a difference? or is it all the same? cats rule!

1. Don't know why the cat collar is more expensive. The dog flea collar has more insecticide in it and could kill a cat if it's put on a cat. Don't put it on a cat younger than 10 weeks either.
2. I don't recommend flea collars at all, actually. While cat flea collars are safer for cats (the dosage is for a smaller animal, and reduced again because a cat licks its fur), they are by no means guaranteed to kill just fleas. There is no FDA for veterinary supplies--that means people can sell just about anything without testing it thoroughly first, the way they do with human medications! Some cats are sensitive to the insecticides on flea collars and will actually have seizures when exposed to it... A few will die. A friend of mine had her healthy nine year old cat die from flea-collar poisoning. What to do about fleas? For one or two fleas, you can pick them out easily enough with a flea comb. (Fleas drown in soapy water.) Anything more than that, and you can walk into your vet's office and get some flea-killer liquid that you can dab onto your cat's neck, which is safe for cats and hasn't got any known side effects. I use "Advantage"; it costs me $7 per cat, but lasts for three months... I have never seen a live flea on a cat past 24 hours after application.
3. flea collars do not really work (as in kill or repel) when i did use them many, many years ago the only thing i notice is they attracted the fleas to it that were on the animal (not kill). I would suggest a good flea bath & then using something like Program (which will sterilize the flea & then they die without producing more) or Frontline Plus. The only thing a flea collar is good for is when your fishing it does help repel mosquitoes.
