Has anyone ever used the dog collars that claim to stop barking?

I have a beagle pup (4 months) and we have received an informal complaint about his barking and yelps early in the morning (0500-0600) Searched the net and have found two types, the slight shock ones when the dog barks or the high pitched sound that only dogs can hear. Anyone got any advice on either? I would prefer not to use anything, but with both my wife and I working full time I don't want to upset the neighbours. Apart from the early morning barks he is perfect. Thanks in advance

1. didnt you know dogs bark? just make sure its safe.
2. I tried the shock collar but it turns the pup into a mean thing or it can break their spirit almost, though I never tried the sound ones I do hear that its most effective from my neighbor who uses it.
3. I have tried both the static correction collars as well as the citronella ones. I have a beagle as well but he was raised with a big shepherd and was so used to roughhousing that he could ignore the static correction. I have had much more success with the citronella one since they are hounds and their noses are SO sensitive. Plus he makes the air lemony fresh :) Just be aware of how long he has it on because it still has a probe to feel the vibration and this can rub his throat a bit.
4. dont get the shock collar, they may work, but it does usually turn the dog in to something mean and nasty.
5. First of all, find out why your dog is barking and correct the problem. If he is bored and prowling the yard, he probably on the hunt (you have a beagle) and needs more mental stimulation through excersize or activities for his personality type. Secondly, collars can be a money pit. I worked at a doggy daycare and boarding facility where we used the citronella version on the out of hand dogs with only a 50% success rate, I think there are better ways to curb your dogs behavior. The shock collars are also a toss up. My dog is a rescue and the shock was used on her before I got her, we checked it out and when she wearing it she stood in one place and didn't move at all. Okay no bark, but what torture. The key is to get the dog to wear it without noticing it's there until it goes off. Good luck.

7. as much as i hate barking, i think i hate shock collars, etc. worse....try figuring out why ur dog barks so early in the morning in the first place.....walkers? possums? boredom? wants to wake u up? figure it out and that might help....
8. I've used the shockers, and they work well once you get the fit correct.

E collars or electronic collars are very effective try one from tritrionics you can check out their web site .also what you can do in the mean time is to correct him for his barking you can use a leash and collar perferably a training collar or choke chain but only when you are training otherwise just use their regular collar. everytime the dog barks give a quick pull on the leash towards you and use the word OUT kind of bark it when you say it ( its sounds like a mother dog repremanding her pups) after you give the correction always praise the dog for the silence you get. try not to reinforce his barking by telling him its ok, shh, try to keep it as impersonable as possible. check out dog obeidence classes too he is ready. be sure to find one that does NOT treat train. check out cesar millan videos
10. I have not had the experience but trust me IT IS REALLY CRUEL! just don't it will traumatize the dog and it will be afraid of you.
11. Electric collars work and they work for every dog. They do not hurt and they do not turn your dog into a mean or evil one, that is just nonsense spewed by the humaniacs who frequent this board. Dogs, just like every other creature, need to learn by the mistakes they make. I do not consider a little discomfort a big price to pay for being able to keep your dog and your house.
12. Yes i have. They have been know to affect the dog mentally, the dog can experience extreme trauma. In a few cases death has been a factor.
